Rank of Captain while on half-pay was because of a big reduction in the 2nd Battalion but he was ‘most desirous of being placed on Full Pay.’ James Nicholson Soden did 19 years Full Paid service and 14 years Half Paid service , altogether 33 years.

He had Full pay abroad for 5 years and 2 months and had Full Pay at home 6 years.and 5 months.
