1st Appointment, 25/11/1795 to the 32nd Regiment of Foot as Ensign without purchase
2nd Appointment, 11/7/1800 to the 85th Regiment of Foot as Captain without purchase
3rd Appointment, 20/3/1808 to the 85th Regiment of Foot as Captain without purchase
4th Appointment, 24/1/1813 to the 24th Regiment of Foot as Captain without purchase
5th Appointment, 24/10/1813 to Half-Pay.
Rank of Captain while on half-pay was because of a big reduction in the 2nd Battalion but
he was ‘most  desirous of being placed on Full Pay.’
James Nicholson Soden did 19 years Full Paid service and 14 years Half Paid service ,
altogether 33 years.

1st Appointment as Ensign on Full Pay with the Royal West Indian Rangers from 14/2/1816 without purchase
2nd Appointment as Ensign  without purchase with the 19th Regiment of Foot after transfer.
3rd Appointment as Lieutenant without purchase with the 2nd West Indian Regiment  from 27/6/1924.
From 8/11/1824 to 31/12/1829 he was Lieutenant with African and West Indian Regiment.
He was married 9/3/1830 at Turks Islands,Bahamas to Martha Frances Lightbourn by Rev. W. H. Lindsay,Church of England.
His wife was still alive on 1/1/1834 according to military records at Kew,PRO.
They had 2 children ,Adele born and died 9/7/1831
And Mary Adele L------ Soden born on 19/8/1832.
Adele died at Turks Island and Mary Adele was baptised there.
He had Full pay abroad for 5 years and 2 months and had Full Pay at home 6 years.and 5 months.
